I suppose I’ll try searching on “how to boot ubuntu so I see boot text”. Maybe it would help if I knew what I was looking for. I don’t remember seeing little numbers in front of everything, last time a watched a raw boot. Still, I want to see exactly what boot text looks like. > ACPI: Added _OSI(Processor Aggregator Device) > mtrr: probably your BIOS does not setup all CPUs. > mtrr: your CPUs had inconsistent variable MTRR settings > PCI: Using configuration type 1 for base access I got stuff like this: > PCI: MMCONFIG at reserved in E820 I tried running it just to see what I got: >dmesg | more Well, perusing this, I found a reference to a dmesg command. So I started looking for help doing that. She saw some stuff that scared her into thinking she was hacked, so I wanted to familiarize her with what a Unix boot terminal output looks like. Cmd-Option-S (she waited several seconds after power on for a beep and then continued to hold them down). My Mom had been seeing the raw unix boot output on her Mac. Hanging out with my Mom and talking about appropriate Unix boot screen.

The error code it gives me is no longer the same. Well now I’ll try uninstalling everything and see if that makes it stop working. I go to the Firefox browser and try watching Garfield on Hulu. Doesn’t print anything and seems to exit back to the shell prompt. I execute it with sudo and it seems to run. It looks like the daemon binary is probably “/usr/sbin/hald”. I want to see a list of files in the package. Well, I’m worried that it may not be configured to start as a service under ubuntu because it is so old. >sudo dpkg -i libhal-storage1_0.5.14-8_bĪlright! It installs.

I go to my download directory and do the following: It looks like I need to get those other packages. >Errors were encountered while processing: >Processing triggers for man-db (2.6.7.1-1ubuntu1). > dependency problems - leaving unconfigured >dpkg: error processing package hal (-install): > hal depends on hal-info (>= 20070402) however: > hal depends on libhal1 (>= 0.5.10) however: > Package libhal-storage1 is not installed. > hal depends on libhal-storage1 (>= 0.5.11~rc2) however: >dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of hal: 226383 files and directories currently installed.) >Selecting previously unselected package hal.

I download the file “hal_0.5.14-6_b” and try do install with dpkg. Looks like one of these deb files might work. The first one I’ll try is to find a deb file for HAL and see if I can get it to work with Ubuntu 14.04 I’ll try a number of approaches to fix this. * The outdated flash plugin is trying to use the even more outdated HAL daemon which is deprecated. * Adobe is no longer updating Flash for Linux. They’ve started using protected DRM functions of Flash * Apparently Hulu has changed the way they deliver video recently. I google the problem and get the following the following helpful pages:

* For Linux users, ensure that you are using Firefox with HAL installed I see a bullet point on the Hulu help article page: I’m going to hold off on that at just this moment. I’m using the version of Firefox that came with Ubuntu 14.04. Well, I guess that quick fix isn’t going to work for me. Great, I don’t see anything that looks like the checkbox they’re talking about in Chrome. I go back to chrome and look for that setting. One of the things the page mentions is to check “Allow identifiers for protected content” under Settings>Show Advanced Settings>Privacy>Content Settings. One bullet point on the page talks about Google Chrome. Well click on the “Hulu support page” link. >If you continue encountering this error, please visit the following >browser and try to play the content again

Go to ( ), and click "Reset License Files," then restart your >sites" under the Website Storage Settings panel Clear your Flash cache by going to ( ) and selecting "Delete all >If this error occurs repeatedly, please follow these steps: >There was a problem playing this protected content. It seems to work at first but then the flash content area displays the following error page: I go to the Sailor Moon page and go to my Sailor Moon episode. I get an error screen (error: 3336) from hulu saying there is an error and that I should try switching to Firefox. I’m trying to watch Sailor Moon on Hulu in the latest version of chrome.
